I rarely ask for support from people and so in doing that I hope you know how important this cause is to me.  Rachael and I have had a burden for Africa for years and specifically the children of Africa.  This year Rachael was able to find a way for us to help.  She is heading up the New York GuluWalk!  I know there are so many places out there seeking your attention and support.  So I’m EXTREMELY grateful that you’re taking the time to read about this worthy cause and I hope you support my walk.

Uganda continues to be in turmoil and Rachael and I have a real burden for that part of the world. We were also privileged enough to see the film “Invisible Children” which chronicles the journey of three Americans who were exposed to the plight of these Ugandan refugees first hand. As a result, Rachael is heading up an amazing event in New York City called the GuluWalk. I have decided to do my part by giving my friends an opportunity to be involved via support, or even better to walk with me on October 25th.

Some information about the situation:
Conservative estimates say the LRA has abducted more than 25,000 children to be used as soldiers and sex slaves. Tens of thousands have been wounded, maimed and killed in LRA attacks.

NEWS FROM UGANDA—PLEASE PRAY FOR THESE KIDS AND RAISE AWARENESS BY JOINING THE GULUWALK ON OCTOBER 25TH!

Act now to protect children from the LRALast week, the LRA launched a surprise attack on a village across the border from northern Uganda and kidnapped two classrooms full of 5th and 6th graders. In the past six days, tens of thousands of people have fled their homes, fearing the rebels.

Imagine the headlines an event like this would get if it happened here. 90 kids, stolen, hauled off into the forest to be used as soldiers. And yet somehow, the lives of these children go unnoticed and unmentioned by the rest of the world.

Progress so far:

- raised $1-million for projects on the ground in northern Uganda that provide education and rehabilitation for the country’s war-affected youth
- in 2007 alone, brought more than 30,000 people together in 100 cities in 16 countries to step forward for peace
- increased political focus on Uganda, leading to Canada’s contribution of $1.5 million to support the peace process as well as Canada’s first-ever clear public statement supporting the peace talks
- seen at least a temporary end to the phenomenon of “night commuting” a tragic reality that saw up to 40,000 Ugandan children walking hours every night to find safety from the LRA

While we have much to celebrate, there is still much work to be done. Please consider walking with me or, if you’re not in NYC, support me by sponsoring my walk.
